Default Help with first build

Greetings,
I'm new to GW and attempting to iron out what my first build will be. I'm prone to starting any RPG with a warrior class because I prefer to be on the front lines of any given battle. In reading your forums I see that the most common and "easiest" profession is the Warrior/Monk. Seeing as how I would like to become good with the skills and learning the game itself I'm going to avoid the monk profession as a secondary profession and go for something else. What do you guys recomend? I like ranged attacks but in the long run I want something that will give me alot of utility along the way, but mostly I just want to have fun! Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

1) DONT AVOID WAR/MO BECAUSE ITS COMMON!!!! thats just retarded. its popular for a damn good reason.

2) read the skill listings and form your own opinions on skills and such, then go out and try the charicters you want. Us telling you what to do wont do squat for you.

Warrior primary is about getting stuck in, dealing damage up close, and living to tell the tale. Any of the classes makes a good secondary, as they don't really change the role of the warrior primary, they just add a few extra options. Elementalist is popular for increased damage, Necromancer + curses can also inflict a lot of pain. Mesmer give you some excellent anti-caster abilities, which is very useful for taking down enemy healers.

Personally though, I think Ranger is perhaps the most balanced secondary for Warrior. Taking Wilderness Survival gives a good range of skills to complement the Warrior. Troll Unguent (great skill) and Dryders Defence can make you very hard to kill. The preparations can make your attacks deadly (Mmmm, poison), and on top of that there are various traps and nature rituals to give you even more unique options.

I ended up taking ranger as a secondary. The reason I wanted to avoid W/MO for my first build is I didn't want the game to get too easy and fall into the trap of thinking I knew what I was doing because I had it a bit easier than other classes. Once I know what I'm doing I'll probably roll a W/MO.
